10 Things Every Woman Should Own

In Style magazine created a list of 10 items that every fashion forward woman must own. The idea is to splurge on these 10 items and slowly incorporate them into your wardrobe since they are considered timeless and worth the investment. Your other fashion purchases should be trendier, less expensive items that will compliment these 10 staples. How many of these pieces do you own? My score is 7/10

1-The Black Blazer: Rachel Bilson reveals how the classic blazer can be trendy when paired with shorts, skinny jeans, or any casual pant.

2-The Leopard Print Scarf: Leopard is always best in small doses. Pair the scarf with a plain tee and jeans to dress up a simple look.

3-Red Flats: This is one of the three items I do not have. Red flats will add that pop of color to a black outfit or dress up a jean and tee combo. Also, reds can be a complimentary color for the popular nautical theme.

4-Striped Shirts: Stripes have been popular for a few years now and show no signs of going out of style. Bonus: The stripe look crosses over well into all 4 seasons!

5-Statement Necklace: This is another trend I’ve been skeptical about. Being 5’2, chunky necklaces and statement pieces tend to overpower a smaller frame. Something subtler can still work as a statement piece.

6-The Little Black Dress: Most women have several Little Black Dresses (LBD). Black is always figure-flattering and the color compliments most women. Black transfers well from workplace daywear to dressy night attire, making it a safe and worthwhile purchase.

7-Black Opaque Tights: Again, you probably own several pairs, but the key to tights is investing in a slightly more expensive and durable pair that will last. Buying cheaper tights that constantly snag and have runs in them will end up costing you more. Tights are great to wear in the winter because a) they keep you warm b) they make your legs look slimmer and c) you can wear an extra short dress in the middle of January!

8-The Oversized Watch: This is my next investment! This boyfriend style can dress an outfit up or down depending on what you’re looking for. Not only versatile but also practical because you always need a watch!

9-The Classic Trench: Splurge on this item! You will likely have it for a while. Trench coats have gotten a bad rep because they usually aren’t worn properly. Look for a figure flattering coat that accentuates your curves and your waistline.

10-Flared Jeans: I’m not convinced that flared jeans flatter all body types. Petite or tall frames can make this work if worn with heels (to avoid the stumpy look) but someone with a curvier bottom and hips might look larger then they really are.
