Rihanna toasted the arrival of the new decade by performing in Abu Dhabi.
While many of her celebrity friends were celebrating the New Year in the Caribbean and Las Vegas, the 21-year-old singer was in concert in the United Arab Emirates.
Rihanna performed a two-hour concert outside Abu Dhabi's Emirates Palace in a risqué black ensemble
Over 10,000 fans on the lawns outside Abu Dhabi's Emirates Palace to watch the singer's two hour gig.
Just before midnight, Rihanna led the audience in a countdown before the sky was full of a spectacular firework display. While she had little interaction in the crowd, her occasional shout of 'Abu Dhabi' sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Earlier this week, organisers denied reports they had asked Rihanna to tone down her stage show for fear of offending the Arab audience.
It had also been reported Rihanna would have to obtain a special license if she wanted to drink champagne in her dressing room because the sale of alcohol is heavily regulated.

In a recent interview, Rihanna said she had a long list of resolutions for 2010.
She said: 'I want to stop shopping, being late, start waking up early, stuff like that. I’d like to see my mum and grandparents more...."
Talking about waking up late...Rihanna's About To Have A Breakdown? – Rumor has it that Rihanna is on the verge of a breakdown due to her constant partying and drinking. One of her pals told a Britain magazine:
“She’s going too far with it.She’s impulsive: she goes all out for something, but when it’s a ?tattoo, you can’t take it back.Every night’s the same. She goes clubbing, downs shots and manages to stay up until the early hours.”
“She’s out partying until the wee hours and working around the clock, so it’s really starting to take a toll on her. “It’s playing havoc with her sleep pattern, but she doesn’t seem to care. She seems to be on a mission to drive herself into the ground.”
Breakdown or a girl just having fun?
With recent talks from Rihanna about her men, sexual preferences, lesbian tendencies and much more, since she broke her silence, I ask you this question...
