An Ode to Conan O’Brien: Can’t Stop the Love

As I was sitting at a roundtable interview with Rodman Flender, the director of Conan O’Brien’s documentary “Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop,” I asked Flender a seemingly simple question. I asked why fans have such a sense of ownership over Conan and why they are so fiercely loyal. Having professed my Team Coco leanings to the director (To be accurate, I said, “Sorry, I’m actually one of those rabid Team Coco fans!"), he told me I’d be better suited to answering my own question.

Interview: Director Rodman Flender on 'Conan O'Brien Can't Stop'

Rodman Flender is the director of the Conan O’Brien documentary "Conan O'Brien Can't Stop." He studied documentary filmmaking at Harvard, which is where he first met O’Brien and has been friends with him ever since.

After O'Brien's hosting duties on "The Tonight Show" ended he began putting together a comedy tour. Flender saw an opportunity to capture a critical and poignant moment in his friend’s life that might reveal the inner workings of a performer’s need to perform and the nature of O’Brien’s relationship with his adoring fans.
