Since Kate Middleton is known for her iconic headwear, it came as no surprise to see A-list guests who attended her wedding wearing pillbox hats, extravagant headbands, and fascinators. While some have this trend perfected, others painfully struggled. Who wore it right? Here's my take.
Hat Perfection:
Prince Albert of Monaco’s fiancée Charlene Wittstock looks stunning in a coordinating light grey ensemble. In contrast to the extravagance of the day, her understated colour and attire exudes timeless elegance, fit for a princess.
British socialite Santa Palmer-Tomkinson purple and pink flower design rests nicely on a bed of feathers. The piece is bold but feminine.
Princess Letizia of Austrias(left)wore a feminine pink hat with netted
overlay detail. The romantic pink colour and timeless style of the hat proves subtlety and femininity are always in style.
Victoria Beckham usually stuns in any outfit and at any social gathering. It pains me to say that she looks better suited for a funeral then a wedding. The midnight blue gown from her fall 2011 collection matches her pillbox hat by Philip Treacy and custom made shoes, creating a dark on dark look. Simply because I don't fell I can judge this style goddesses attire- not yet anyways, she goes on neither list!
Who Has Yet to Master the Art of Headwear?
Socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson wore electric blue from head to toe. The angle of the Stephen Jones pillbox hat is just distracting. Also, the monochromatic color scheme is reminiscent of an action figure or power ranger.
Royal cousins Princess Eugenie of York attended the wedding in a peacock blue Vivienne Westwood dress and feathered fascinator by Phillip Treacy. Her sister, Princess Beatrice of York, chose a more subtle color, wearing a blush design by Valentino Haute Couture and again, a fascinator by Phillip Treacy. The sisters decided to channel their inner Lady Gaga for the special day!
Princess Victoria of Sweden is obviously playing it safe. Her matching coral hat reminds me of a straw-hat you would wear to the beach. It's simply not wedding attire.
