Chris Brown GOES COUNTRY?

Chris Brown isn’t letting those legal troubles get in the way of him putting out some new music. The embattled singer might even try to dip into the country music world with “Trapped in a Dream,” a song that’s being considered for his upcoming new album. He may go so far as to ask a country music star or two to appear on the track… “Maybe we’ll see an appearance from Carrie Underwood or someone like that,” Robert Allen, a writer and producer currently working with Brown, told us last night at the BMI Pop Awards in Beverly Hills. “It’s that kind of song.” So what’s it about? “It’s just feeling like you don’t want that dream to go away,” Allen explained. “Everybody has a dream and you’re in it, but you wake up and you’re like, ‘Oh, my God.’ You feel like you’re still in that dream.” Allen said Brown doesn’t talk about what’s going on with Rihanna, who is also spending time in the studio. “We just focus on music,” he said. “We’re just happy-go-lucky people who just get into the studio as much as possible.” This year’s BMI Pop Awards, which honor songwriters and music publishers, included performances from Estelle, Michael Bublé and Colbie Caillat. Among the guests were Adam Levine, Chris Daughtry and Jordin Sparks. Taylor Swift picked up BMI’s prestigious President’s Award. “I write songs on my bedroom floor about boys,” she said. “Thank you for giving me an award for that.”

Well, it’s one way to get people talking about something other than his alleged assault against Rihanna. E! News reports that beleaguered R&B singer Chris Brown is currently in the studio working on a country song(!) — and Robert Allen, a writer and producer collaborating with him, says Carrie Underwood is a possible duet partner. “It’s that kind of song.” Allen says of the track, called “Trapped in a Dream,” “just feeling like you don’t want that dream to go away. Everybody has a dream and you’re in it, but you wake up and you’re like, ‘Oh, my God.’ You feel like you’re still in that dream.” Hmm, nightmare? Considering that Ciara is still defending her choice to include “ Turntables ,” her duet with Brown on the recent Fantasy Ride , it seems unlikely that Underwood, a multiplatinum artist and recent ACM Entertainer of the Year winner, would take the risk of that association as long as the taint of recent events still lays so heavily on Brown.

But you tell me, — is there anything he can to do get back in the public’s good graces and redeem his now-tarnished image? Does going country sound like an inspired leap, or just a very bad idea???
