President Obama's First State Of The Union Address Of 2011 (VIDEO)

January 25, 2011 - In his State of the Union address, the president voiced his support for Don't Ask, Don't Tell, saying that no one would be forbidden from serving the country because of who they love.

The United States must defeat hardened enemies and build coalitions worldwide to aid in the defeat of militants, President Barack Obama said Tuesday.

"America's moral example must always shine for all who yearn for freedom, justice, and dignity," Obama said during his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress. "And because we have begun this work, tonight we can say that American leadership has been renewed and America's standing has been restored."

Violence is down in Iraq and a new government has been formed, he said, and U.S troops will leave this year.

"America's commitment has been kept; the Iraq War is coming to an end,"
he said to extended applause.
