So There is A Spin-Off ?

Executive Producer Ryan Murphy finally sheds light on the widely speculated Glee spin-off.

I know, I know! I said I was not going to be jerked back and forth by the Glee rumours anymore. I said that my last post would be from the Comic-Con panel that confirmed there would NOT be a spin-off show and that Lea, Cory, and Chris would be back for season 4.

Well, I can't help it. Glee is my guilty pleasure.

Besides, it's not like I'm making all this up for the sake of gossip. The information I am sharing has come from the creatore and executive producers of the show. It doesn't get more legitimate than that!

Now that I'm done defending myself to the readers who do not follow Glee and are rolling their eyes at yet another posting dedicated to the comedy you aren't watching, but really should be, here's the latest scoop.

In an interview with deadline.com, executive producer Ryan Murphy revealed that a spin-off show was likely the route for Lea, Cory, and Chris:

"I said two things in an interview: I said, yes, they are graduating and they will not be back on the show for Season Four. And when I did that interview, what was happening was we were asked to investigate doing a spin-off and it was a spin-off specifically for three of them, Chris, Cory and Lea. In March, Brad Falchuk and I started talking to all three of those actors about it because you can’t make people do spin-offs. So, we went to them and asked, 'What do you think about this? Are you interested? If you are interested, what would you want your character to do? Where do you think we should shoot it?' So, it was a discussion with all three of those actors about it. At the time, all three of them expressed interest," said Murphy.

Obviously they would want their own show if the alternative is not being a part of the vastly growing and extremely popular Glee franchise!

This isn't a done deal though, according to Murphy, some of the actors were not willing to relocate. With the uncertainty surrounding where the show would take place, they decided to take a break from all the spin-off planning. Then suddenly, rumors were circulating that the three had been fired -- Chris Colfer publically stated he found out he lost his job via Twitter, and Murphy was not happy:

"Then, to pick up and read the actors saying, “We found out we were fired from Twitter.” All of us, the studio, the network, were like, 'OK, that isn’t exactly cool,' because we involved all three of them in that decision. So then what happened is that we decided, 'OK, let’s not do it.' So that’s where we are today. Maybe we’ll talk about it in April or May, but for now let’s just concentrate on making Season 3 the best that we can do."
So that leaves us in the exact same position we've been in all summer -- unsure if there will be a spin-off? So why have they been jerking us around all summer, why has this been so back and forth? Murphy blames it on their inability to specifically talk about the spin-off:

"I think it was a story that, because the truth couldn’t come out, blossomed into a thing.  I’ve learned a lesson from this experience. I’ve learned to really really monitor what I say. Before I didn’t do that. My bad. Stupid. Particularly what has happened with Glee. I just read an article that Glee is one of the most discussed shows on the Internet between the blogs and the recap."

Well, I definitely had a hand in boosting the Glee discussion.

So here's where we stand Gleeks: the actors all have seven year contracts, this is season 3. You do the math. It is likely there will be a spin-off of some sort or the three will remain on the original show as graduates moving to the next phase.
