The 64th annual Cannes Film Festival began on May 11th and will last until the 22nd. The French festival showcases up and coming films viewed by a global audience and is also notorious for the celebrity sightings, high-end parties and red-carpet fashion. Throughout the festival, I will be picking key looks that stand out. Take a look at the fashion from day 1.
Rachel McAdams in Maxime Simoens:
Rachel made her debut in this fitted Maxime Simoens couture piece from the Spring 2011 collection. The dress is accented with camellia flowers on the shoulders and pockets. I’m usually a fan of shorter hemlines but this above the knee length is just right for the style. The bright pink lips counter the neutral shades and compliment the style nicely.
Uma Thurman in Versace:
My favorite part of this strapless Versace gown is the feather of trains. Thurman, a jury member for this year’s film festival, wore the white silk number to the opening ceremony earlier today.
Karolina Kurkova in Armani Prive:
The model attended the premiere of Midnight in Paris in the most glamorous gown of the night. The mermaid style, midnight blue gown is embroidered with Swarovski crystals and sequins. The hair, jewelry and organza detail at the shoulder is very old Hollywood and ideal for any red-carpet event.
Rachel McAdams in Marchesa:
The opening day belonged to Rachel McAdams who hit the red carpet for the premiere of Midnight in Paris in this Marchesa stunner. The sheer dress featured bright red embellishments and an embroidered organza train.
Note the trends that are consistent- the bright pink lip is becoming increasingly popular, especially on blondes. Also, gowns with a train appear to be a staple at every red carpet event. To see gowns that follow this trend, see the looks from the previous post from the MET Ball.
