The TV Show You’re Not Watching-But Should Be!

I simply do not understand why a series like Jersey Shore will likely last five, six, seven seasons while a TV show as spectacular as Friday Night Lights has only made it to five, due to ratings. The problem? Everyone thinks it is solely based on a football team. The Reality? Football is a sub-plot in the larger scheme of the series. It’s really about people in a small town of Texas dealing with the challenges of everyday life. Football is just a medium used to address other issues, like relationships, family, growth, class status, race and how these factors all play out.

The writing and acting is indescribable. Really, I’m not overreacting; I just cannot put into words how heart wrenching and relatable the storylines are week after week. The actors have this ability to suck you in and have you rooting for each and every one of them because of their honesty and chemistry with one another. The writers of Friday Night Lights are not afraid to get personal and give accurate encounters of the dirty stuff. Trust me, it gets real and it gets dirty! Your heart breaks for Jason Street when his football dreams are crushed from a paralyzing injury that he never recovers from. Did I mention this all happens in the pilot? Surprisingly, his role isn’t cut, he isn’t transformed into a secondary character, but rather the series tackles the life of someone newly disabled. The emotion is raw and at times devastating. Think about it, this is just the plot line for one character!

Now, I know it is too late for this article to create a spike in the ratings and save the series but trust me, watch it for your own good. Watch it and I guarantee, football fan or not, Tim Riggins fan or not, you will fall in love with the story line, the cast, their acting, and yes even Texas.  A series this phenomenal, a cast this talented and writing so perfect deserves to be shared and praised.

And remember FNL fans, Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose!
