Transformers: Dark of the Moon Review

Rating: 6.5/10

Best way to describe this movie: two and a half hours of loud explosions!

The film opens with footage of a 1969 top secret mission on the moon by astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The incorporation of historical NASA facts from the original moon landing mixed with fictional additions like government cover ups and alien presence added a realistic element to an otherwise highly unbelievable film plot.

The movie consists of good and bad computerized alien robots-- Transformer fans will know the good robots by name, or as they are generally called, Autobots. The villains are the Decepticons, who are out to capture special tools known as pillars (which were found on the moon) so they can transport their planet, Cybertron,  onto planet earth and change mankind forever.

It is ultimately up to the Autobots, Sam Witwiky (Shia LaBoeuf), his girlfriend Carly (Rosie Huntington-Whitely) and their military based friends Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and Epps (Tyrese Gibson) to wage a war on the Decepticons and save planet Earth.

Patrick Dempsey stars as Dylan, Carley's boss who is in cahoots with the Decepticons. His bad boy role is a venture outside of Dempsey's comfort zone, but is ultimately done well. Rosie-Huntington-Whitely's first stab at acting is mediocre at best, but in all fairness, her sole duty was to portray the 'hot girlfriend' and serve as the movie's sole female eye candy. The robots and men steal the show, as expected.

Out of all three  Transformers films, this is not Michael Bay's most successful, however, the film still set box office records grossing $37.7 million on opening night. Those numbers took the lead for this years highest selling opening day figures, but still marks a 39% drop from the 2009 film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Is the film predictable? For the most part, yes. Do you feel sad when familiar Autobots die? Embarrassingly, yes. Is it action packed? Yes. A little long and drawn out? Also a yes.
