Another Hot Summer Trend...The Maxi Dress

Everywhere I look I'm seeing Maxi dresses. At first I was skeptical about long dresses on smaller frames. I assumed that it would make a petite woman look stumpy and even shorter. I'm barely 5'3 so I have to deal with this problem a lot. I like to call it the 'cute' girl syndrome.

Let me explain. Tall women can make anything look sexy without even trying. It's the long legs! If a short woman wears the exact same thing (that flatters a tall woman), even in her own size, more often than not, she will look cute next to her tall counterpart.

Before all my tall friends start typing away furiously, I know there is also a 'tall girl syndrome'. I've heard about it over and over again- looking trashy in shorter hemlines that short girls can pull off. Sometimes you want to tone it down and it's hard to look cute with 4 inches of leg exposed. I get it!

Back to the Maxi dress! Turns out this is not only a tall girl trend. Take a look at petite superstars, Nicole Ricci, Eva Longoria, and Rachel Bilson rocking the style effortlessly.

I'm sold!

Now to make this trend more flattering. Opt for a strapless look. If you decide to go for spaghetti straps or a halter dress, make sure it's slightly low cut and not completely covering your curves. The bottom half is likely going to be loose and flowing, so the top half should be figure flattering. Also, go crazy with patterns! Bohemian, tie dye, and floral prints are really big right now.

You can pretty much take this trend and go wild. Strapless, halter, sleeveless, you name it. Whether it's a dressy event or just running errands pair your Maxi with flats or heels to capture the look you desire. Minka Kelly, Alicia Keys, and Leighton Meester reveal how the casual look is good for every day below:
