Key Looks From Last Night

There wasn’t one particularly large event happening in Hollywood, New York, or anywhere in the world for that matter last night. However, there were several smaller events that drew incredible fashion (Considering I wrote a piece on the Glamour Awards, where the fashion was anything but glamorous, I’m kinda feeling this new installment is necessary.)

I’m going to title this installment Key Looks From Last Night. I think it will be a regular series where I will mention one or more looks from the night before that I feel are worthy of mentioning. Despite today’s posting being very high glamour, normally these postings will incorporate more casual looks that don’t get noticed and are outside of the red carpet.

It just so happens that there were lots of red carpet events last night, so here are key looks from last night’s red carpet events:

Jessica Alba in Dolce & Gabbana:
This is maternity fashion done right! Too often, women try really hard to embrace their bulging bellies during pregnancy by wearing the tightest clothing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m just as sappy as the next person when it comes to pregnancy and babies, I think the pregnant body is a beautiful thing, I really do. Just not when it looks like your jeans or dress are cutting off circulation to your stomach. How is that even comfortable?

Not only does Jessica Alba look comfortable, she looks beautiful. The actress attended the Covenant House California 2011 Gala and Awards Dinner in L.A. last night in this floral lace gown.

Camila Alves in Zuhair Murad:
Ok, so there was one semi big event going on in L.A. last night. The 39th AFI Life Achievement Award took place and honored Morgan Freeman’s career as an actor. Camila Alves (best known as Matthew McConaughey’s better half) walked the red carpet in this Fall 2011 piece by Zuhair Murad. The platinum beaded gown fit Alves body like a glove and really showcased her curves nicely.

Elizabeth Hurley in Roberto Cavalli:
Another semi-big event that was taking place last night was in London. The ARK 1Oth Anniversary Gala Dinner drew out some big shot British names and Elizabeth Hurley was one of them. This is quite the sexy number for the actress- the gown is form fitting and features a thigh high slit and cut out detail at the shoulder. The cut out also showcases some embellishment, to add just enough sparkle.

Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, in Jenny Packham:
Newlyweds William and Kate also attended the ARK 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner in London last night. I feel like this is going to be the first of many postings dedicated to Kate’s fashion choices. She’s a princess now and her mother in-law was the infamous fashion icon Princess Diana- so the pressure is on! Lucky for us, this will undoubtedly translate to good fashion picks and lots write about (and drool over!)

The Duchess was hands down, best dressed at this Gala. Best dressed of the night for that matter. I’m blown away by this wardrobe choice because a) it is incredibly beautiful and because b) it’s so un-Kate. Up until this event, Kate’s wardrobe has been high fashion but also very reserved and subdued. Not anymore.

The rose sequin gown is feminine and ethereal while simultaneously being very bourgeoisie and fit for royalty with the Swarovski crystal embellishment detail.
